Mammootty’s new film Daddy Cool, written and directed by debutant Ashik Abu has confirmed its release date as July 30.
There is only a gap of three weeks between Pattanathil Bhootham and another commercial children film of the megastar Daddy Cool!
It is a cool, humorous and thrilling story of a laidback police officer Antony Simon played by Mammootty, who is very fond of his six year old son and likes to play cricket and laze around with him than attending office!
Richa Palod is playing Mammootty’s heroine in this film, which also has Vijayraghavan, Baburaj, and Biju Menon. Production Manager Alvin Antony and Bose Kurian are making the film under the banner of Aninya Films and is distributed by Marakkar films.
Daddy Cool will be marketed as Mammootty’s Onam release even though the festival is in the first week of September. Please note Noyambu (Ramzan fasting) period starts on August 21, so the film will get a clean three weeks run before that.
Ee Pattanathil Bhootham - Review
Welcome to a fantasyland folks, where director Johny Antony's Ee Pattanathil Bhootham happens. It's a world where a friendly ghost manages to escape from a fiery wizard and eventually saves a few from certain danger. Remember, that this film is aimed at the children and once bear that in mind, things will start making sense.
The film opens with a ‘Manthravadi’ (Pithamagan Mahadevan) an evil magician spiriting away a friendly ghost (Mammootty with horns) to obey to his commands and make money through crime. Meanwhile a group of kids and their benefactors are held hostage in a circus camp by the baddies, who has taken over the show.
Ancy (Kavya) is coming back from Delhi, to take charge of the circus company founded by her father Philipose (Janaradhanan), who was found murdered. On reaching there, she is told that her father was stabbed to death by a bike-jumper named Jimmy (Mammootty).
In fact Jimmy, his foster father Krishnettan (Innocent), aide Sisupalan (Suraj Venjarammood) and a gang of street children were all invited by Philipose to join his circus group.
Meanwhile the ghost (Mammootty, in his other role) appears, becomes friendly with the kids and takes a more stylish shape of Jimmy. Thanks to the ghost, Ancy realizes that Jimmy was innocent in the whole issue. Now the battle between the good and evil begins.
Now haven't we seen the friendly ghost playing the savior and friend, some twenty five years back in My dear Kuttichathan, which had the world looking at Malayalam films with awe for its genuine experiments and technical brilliance?
Johnny Antony has borrowed liberally from old Bollywood hits like Mr.India and Brahmachari. The film may certainly not be in that league, but it still could qualify as a decent entertainer.
The plus points of the film are Mammootty’s all round performance, especially in comic scenes. He does not romance Kavya, and the film is made for children there are no smutty language or scenes. It’s clean fun all the way. On the downside the plot is amateurish and predictable, with no twist in the tale and is too long. It looks more like a kids stage play than a mass entertainer.
Mammootty looks eminently handsome and is evidently at ease playing both his avatars, though it would have been better if he had used his trademark voice for the ghost as well. Kavya Madhavan has nothing much to do other than look pretty and play to the tunes of the hero.
Suraj Venjarammood, who plays the dumb sidekick and Salimkumar, as a stupid cop, scores with their comic acts. Mahadevan who plays the wicked magician, looks convincing in his role.
Utpal V Nayanar's visuals and Shaan Rahman's music are among the highlights of the film. The song Mamarangale… is a nice melody and has been shot well. The special effects and computer graphics is the best we have seen in recent times.
Here is a comedy caper that will work with its target audiences, the kids who are sure going to lap it up.

Mammootty's Website to re-launch today, with more Interactive Features
Malayalam superstar Mammootty's website is set to get a new look, have more interactive features and would include a blood bank service too.
The veteran actor said it could now be called a portal and not just a website as www.mammootty.com is more exhaustive than before.
"The highlight of the re-launched site is that it would be more interactive. Besides, it would offer a slew of community services that include a blood bank where anyone wanting blood can log on to the site. Through this one can find out the person in his or her locality who would be willing to provide blood. This blood bank will be operated with the help of my fans' association," Mammootty told IANS.
The National Award winning actor will officially re-launch the website here Sunday evening.
The new portal will have an elaborate interactive forum for his fans apart from details about the star and his upcoming projects. But won't this give people a platform to write negative views as well?
"See, freedom of expression need not be curbed... and let anyone write what they want. I am sure only when the freedom of expression is there, I can do introspection. So let people write and express themselves," Mammootty said.
The re-launch of the website comes just ahead of his new film's release. "Pattanathil Bhootham", a much-awaited entertainer, releases later this week.
"I am certainly happy with the film but then it is the audience who have to do the rest. My hands are full with two more (movies) in the final stages of production and 'Pazhazzi Raja', a mega film, is also slated for release during Ramadan," said Mammootty, who has worked in over 300 films.
The actor recently turned producer and distributor too with the launch of his production company called Play House last month.

Mammootty acts like Jayan in Bhootham Song!
Mammootty is going to bring the house down in a remix song from the late action hero Jayan’s 1980 film Love in Singapore, for his Pattanathil Bhootham.
The song has Mammootty dressed up to resemble Jayan of the late 70’s in a garish yellow bell bottoms and red giant size collar shirt tucked in with a huge belt with a mega size buckle. Those who saw a clipping of this comedy remix song, says it is hilarious.
Mammootty dances with Suraj Venjaranmoodu dressed as a girl, to the hit song from the Jayan film Chaam Chakka Chom Chakka…, which was sung by Jayachandran and P.Susheela and tuned by Shankar Ganesh. The remix of the popular number has been done by Shaan Rahman in Pattanathil Bhootham.

Mammootty's double role again in Paleri Manikkam
Paleri Manikkam by Renjith with Mammootty in the lead role is a crime thriller with a CBI officer probing into a murder case which had occurred in the 1950s. The movie is based on a story by T P Rajeevan which appeared in the Mathrubhoomi weekly in the 1960s. The story itself is based on the real life murder case that rocked the Kerala scenario in the 50s.
An interesting aspect of the movie is that Mammootty will be seen in a dual role as that of a CBI officer who comes to re-investigate the case in 2009 and a feudal Muslim landlord who lived in the 50s and is linked to the crime. But there would be no connection between the two characters. Many new artistes have been chosen for some key roles in the movie like Mythili as Manikkam.
Sreenivasan, Vijayaraghavan, Siddique and many other eminent artistes can be seen in key roles in the movie. The shooting of Paleri Manikkam will commence on July 3 at Mookambika temple.

Paleri Manikkam to start rolling
Mammootty's Paleri Manikkam, directed by Ranjit is to start in Moogambika temple on July 3.
The film is a period crime thriller of a CBI officer who investigates a case which happened in the late 50's!
The film is based on a story serialised in Mathrubhumi weekly in the early 60's written by T.P Rajeevan. The story is based on the sensational Manikkam murder case that rocked Kerala in the 50's.
What makes the film interesting is that Mammootty will play a dual role as the CBI officer who re- investigates the case in 2009 and a feudal Muslim landlord who lived in the 50's and involved in the crime. There is no relationship between both the characters.
Writer and director Ranjit has taken all new actors, mainly people from the theatre to play important characters in the film.
All of them have been undergoing a one month training camp in Kozhikode on how to act on the screen! The courses were conducted by Murali Menon and Ranjit.
The important character of Manikkam will be played by the stage artist Mythali. Ranjit has also made changes in Rajeevan's original story to suit the taste of today's audiences.
The others in the cast are Sreenivasan, Vijayraghavan, Siddique and Sadiq. New cinematographer Prakash Kutty will be the cameraman, while music is by Biji Bal.
The film is being produced by K.V Anoop and Subair under the banner of Varnachitra Big Screen.

Director Lohithadas Passes Away
Noted writer-director Lohithadas died today (June 28) around 10.50 in the morning, due to a massive heart attack at a private hospital in Kochi.Ambazhathil Karunakaran Lohithadas (A. K. Lohithadas) was undoubtedly one of the finest script writers in Malayalam. He could be put in the same pedestal as the greats like M.T Vasudevan Nair, Thoppil Bhasi and Padmarajan.
Lohi died young at 54 and has written some of the finest scripts seeped in realism and had a human touch and pulled at your heart strings.
Like M.T. Vasudevan Nair and late Bharathan, Lohi was a script writer who understood the pulse of the Malayalees and his early films with Sibi Malayil were classic like Thaniavarthanam, Amaram, Kireedam, Dasaratham, His Highness Abdulla, Kamaladalam, before the director bug caught him.
All his early films had a Kerala milieu and told stories about the social and political issues prevailing in the society.
As a director he was mediocre, as he had to make commercial compromises. Some of his memorable films as a director were Bhoothakannadi, Kasturimaan, Aarayannangalude Veedu, Nivediyam.
Said Mammootty: “ Lohi's untimely death is a personal loss for me. He had understood my strengths and weaknesses and created characters that suited me. He told human stories which were rooted in Kerala culture”
Mammootty with Horns!
At the audio launch of Mammootty's Pattanathil Bhootham, the actor surprised everybody by coming for the function with a pair of red horns attached to his head!

Mammootty told Dileep, one of the guests at the function - “I had gone to Hong Kong, for shooting a song forDaddy Cool, and saw this horn at a wayside shop and picked it up. It remained me so much about the horn the friendly ghost wears in Pattanathil Bhootham”The music of Pattanathil Bhootham, by new music director Shaan Rahman (the guy who made the album ‘Coffee@MG Road’ with Vineeth Sreenivasan) is a hit.
The film is now almost certain to release in 111 screens on July 2.
